Bacon Industries™ is a perfectly normal Eorzean corporation. The Cult would like to stress that there is absolutely no relationship between its activities and ours.
The Unofficial Version
Bacon did not create the Cult. The Cult was already there when she found it.
She had been searching for the presence from her dream: the Sizzle, the heat, the impossible voice she could not fully remember.
After the Cult recognized her, Bacon had a practical concern.
They needed a front.
Not because the Cult was hiding from anyone in particular. Mostly because ancient spiritual organizations are surprisingly difficult to explain to customers.
So Bacon built the public-facing operation.

Nutrition
Feed the people. Study the Pan. Keep the Sizzle close.
Entertainment
Keep the faithful happy. Collect the debt. Ask no questions about the basement key.
Philanthropy
Protect the vulnerable. Especially Lalafells. Procurement has been instructed accordingly.
Research
Understand the Sizzle. Or at least document enough anomalous bacon to justify another budget request.
Why did the Sizzle tell Bacon to build a corporation?
We do not know.
Bacon does not know.
And that, according to the Cult, is probably the point.
