The surviving account is brief.
Bacon had become lost.
She followed candlelight down an unfamiliar corridor, intending only to find someone who could tell her how to get out.
Instead, she opened the wrong door.
The room went quiet.
One figure turned. Then another.
Then, without instruction, the entire gathering knelt.
No introduction was given.
No name was spoken.
The faithful simply knew.
THE PART THAT SHOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE
The oldest witnesses did not behave as though they had discovered Bacon.
They behaved as though something they had been waiting for had finally arrived.
Bacon's recorded reaction appears to have been confusion.
Possibly concern.
Almost certainly the realization that asking for directions was no longer going to be simple.
THE UNANSWERED QUESTION
Why did they recognize her?
No surviving record explains how the faithful knew Bacon before she spoke, nor why the oldest among them appeared to have been waiting for her.
There is one further problem: Bacon herself had never seen the Cult before that night.
Reason for redaction: [THE FAITHFUL HAVE REQUESTED THAT WE STOP ASKING]
